Last Monday in Shrawan is a special day for Hindu women to emulate Parvati to please Lord Shiva making special offerings and getting married to him.
Hindu women wearing green and yellow glass beads, green blouses, and saris of yellow and red visit the temples of Lord Shiva all over Nepal on every Monday in Shrawan, and specially on the last Monday, as on this day Parvati pleased Lord Shiva and got married to him. Green and yellow colors are favorites of Lord Shiva.
Hindu women believe that making offerings to Lord Shiva on every Monday in the month of Shrawan, and making special offerings on the last Monday lengthen the lives of husbands, and unmarried women will have husbands of their choice.
Hindu women also believe that dressing in green, and wearing green and yellow glass beads and painting ‘mehandi’* on their hands lengthen the lives of their husbands.
* ‘Mehandi’ is a herbal-color painting on hands.
