Manakamana: the deity of meeting the wishes of devotees. Location: Gorkha, Nepal.
The deity meets the wishes of
• Young couples for a good life;
• Young men and women for a spouse of their choice;
• Students for admission to good schools;
• Spouses for returning of their husbands working abroad back to Nepal;
• Spouses for promotion of their husbands in their jobs;
• Businessmen for achieving their targets of business performances;
• Parents for the good news of their offspring studying or working abroad;
• Anybody for anything possible to meet.
Devotees pledge to ‘bhakal’ of making offerings of
• Regular puja comprising holy water, flower, rice, amber or vermillion, and wicks soaked in oil;
• Regular puja plus a live pigeons
• Regular puja plus an egg (chicken or duck);
• Regular puja plus offering of a rooster;
• Regular puja plus offering of a male goat;
• Regular puja plus offerings of ‘lakh-vati’ lighting of 125,000 wicks soaked in oil.
Days of the deity: Saturdays are preferred but any day is good for making offerings to the deity.
