Mother’s day is celebrated in Nepal on April-May or new moon day of Jestha of every year, it is one of the biggest festivals in Nepal. On this days, children celebrate their mothers by giving various gifts, sweets and Sagun. Newly married daughters (on their first Mother’s Day after the wedding) bring an extensive collage of gifts, sweets, and good food to their mothers. Because it’s their daughter-in-laws’ first mother’s day, the monther-in-laws take a particular care in preparation of the gifts and foods to make sure that the gift-package meets the traditional standard. However, those without mothers pay a visit at Matatirtha on this day in the western outskirts of Kathmandu near Thankote, where they take holy bath and perform memorial service (Sadradha) in their mother’s name.
