Rato Matsyendranath: the deity of rains, good harvest, and full of foods. Location: Patan, and Bungamati. The deity resides six months in Patan, and six months in Bungamati.
The deity helps
• Devotees to have rains during the plantation time, good harvest during the harvesting, and full of foods throughout a year.
Devotees pledge to ‘bhakal’ of making offerings of
• Regular puja comprising holy water, flower, rice, amber or vermillion, and wicks soaked in oil;
• Offering of lighting 108 oil lamps.
• Offering of ‘lakh-vati’ means lighting 125,000 wick lamps.
Devotees make the offerings on the first day of every month.
The days of the deity: The first day of every month. However, any day is good for the deity.
Another Rato Matsyendranath is at Chovar: South of Kathmandu. Devotees make offerings to the deity for recovering from major ailments. The offerings are identical to the offerings made to the deity in Patan/Bungamati.
